Stephen Colbert is in 3rd Place - make that 1st place!
By newsguy | October 19, 2007
His bio on his website starts out:
“How do you summarize the life of someone as awesome as Stephen Colbert?”
How do you summarize….? An awesome TV host. A funny guy. Very handsome. Lived in South Carolina.
What else do we really need?
He’s got what it takes. Plus he already has lots of great suits.
You might think I’m joking.
Colbert is actually leading a few online polls. And, he was one of the top most searched for words on the internet this week.
He shot from obscurity to top 3 in this year-old internet straw poll.
Colbert in ‘08. Maybe Ron Paul wants to be his VP.
Take the poll here:

October 25th, 2007 at 10:39 am
you guys are a bunch of dumb asses! this is why our country dose not work! we have a comidian runing for president and people will vote for him because who he is not what he will do… dose anyone ever think that maybe this guy dose not know anything about being president? you all make me sick!
October 25th, 2007 at 2:07 pm
I LOVE STEPHEN COLBERT!!!!!!!!!!1
If anybody should be running the united states of america it should be him, HE KNOWS HIS STUFF!!
Get rid of this Bush guy, he’s dumb as Hell…
October 25th, 2007 at 3:13 pm
Joe Delta, you musta voted for Bush didn’t you?You have to be the biggest idiot on the face of the planet. Loosen the hell up n look at it this way..Colbert-Hilarious show, smart dude.good speaker..Bush- moron, idiot, borderline retarded.
But if u wanna get serious..how bout this..Theres something called the electoral college. Which means our vote truly doesn’t count. The government is going to put in office whoever the hell they want. We saw proof of that with the election of Dumbass Jr. I’m done talking, if I keep explaining this to your dumbbass i’m going to end up beating myself in the face with a hammer repeatedly.
And thats THE WORD
October 25th, 2007 at 3:23 pm
Stephen Colbert knows a lot more than you think he does. have you ever seen his show? can you look past the comedy? and have you ever read his book? yes Colbert is a comedian, but there is a reason he’s so funny- he knows what he’s talking about. i suggest you do your research before bashing someone who has a lot more credibility than you do.
October 25th, 2007 at 3:48 pm
Joe Delta,
What is wrong with America is that those who try to deep thinking intellectuals do not know how to spell, thus lending 0 credibility to your statement.
On another note: Colbert is awesome!!!!!
October 25th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
If Colbert became president, I wouldn’t move to Canada.
October 25th, 2007 at 4:12 pm
I agree with Kyle in the fact that you repeatedly spelling does ‘dose’ means your opinion counts less than a toddler’s (they have reasons for not spelling, you just didn’t pay attention in first grade). Of course, Kyle’s post didn’t make 100% sense either, haha. I’m sure that is a typo or something. Joe Delta=retarded. Go play in traffic.
October 25th, 2007 at 4:36 pm
I’ve said it before and will say it again. Joe Delta, it’s all just a fucking show anyway! I say let’s let a professional do it. Are you actually under the impression that your president REPRESENTS you and the government runs the country for the good of all of us?? Be prepared for my next words….DESPITE what your mommy and daddy tell you….DESPITE what the media feeds you…DESPITE what the government says….WE DO NOT LIVE IN A REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY… This whole thing with Colbert is great for one reason and one reason ONLY. People WANT him to run… which means they believe he might represent them because he actually relates to them. It’s never our choice who gets to RUN for president, we only get to choose from the heap of rich old bastards that are essentially chosen and supported by other rich old bastards. Plus Colbert is awesome. So yeah, end of my two cents…peace out
October 25th, 2007 at 4:50 pm
Joe,
Learn to spell properly before criticizing others. You sound like an idiot. It takes away from any credibility you’re trying to appear to have when you can’t even spell “does” correctly.
Anyone will be better than Dubya at this point because he’s put us in such a hell hole anyone with an IQ of 50 will be better than him. Stephen Colbert is smart enough and surrounds himself with smart people that even if his running is a big joke, he’d still be better than what we have.
Now go read a dictionary.
October 25th, 2007 at 5:23 pm
So here’s what is wrong with this country, please don’t be offended. It is filled with bigots who are so set in there ways anything different is wrong. I’m reading these previous posts in pure disgust. The problems with our country are not if George W. Bush is in office, or if Stephen Colbert is running for president. The problem is in the lack of unity. I can’t believe anyone on here who has talked down Bush or Colbert are proud Americans. I strongly feel that an American’s largest responsibility is to love there country, and to appreciate those who are leading it whether you think they are doing the best job or not because that’s who was elected. I swear all this whining by democrats about Bush being president is going to drive this nation into the ground. I wouldn’t be surprised if FDR himself rolled over in his grave. Also, if one more Republican or other complains about Colbert running for president im going to be worried. Our right as a citizen is to be able to run for president.
What we need is a person to run for president, not someone who is so entwined is party politics that they can’t make a decision for themselves. Our countries political parities are so corrupt. Someone like Colbert would be refreshing, while I also think President Bush did a great job for our country. No ones perfect, but I think he did just as good as anyone from any party could have done.
October 25th, 2007 at 5:34 pm
Lol, i read what this Joe guy said, and read it outloud to a few friends telling them what an asshole he is. He’s obviously a Bush fan, i could see that from the way he unknowingly repeated to spell DOES wrong. And other words with that. Then I went on to read the comments after his, and all of you people already pointed that out. Good times.
Colbert is one funny as dude and I to this day had no knowledge of him running for president but now that I know, there is no question as to who I’m voting for. Sweet.
October 25th, 2007 at 5:40 pm
could this comedian be any worse as president than the movie star we had a few years back? I don’t Think so.
October 25th, 2007 at 5:59 pm
David Jihad, if Colbert became pres, I’d MOVE to the States!
October 25th, 2007 at 6:44 pm
I translated JD’s post into English for you guys. Most of it is coherent, but it gets a little sketchy in the middle. To his credit, he makes as much sense as our current President.
you guys are a bunch of dumb asses (dumbasses)! this is why our country dose (does) not work! we have a comidian (comedian) runing (running) for president (President) and people will vote for him because who he is not what he will do… (???) dose (does) anyone ever think that maybe this guy dose (does) not know anything about being president? you all make me sick!
October 25th, 2007 at 6:50 pm
“Colbert is one funny as dude and I to this day had no knowledge of him running for president but now that I know, there is no question as to who I’m voting for. Sweet.”
Learn how to spell “ass” before making fun of another poster because of his typos.
October 25th, 2007 at 6:51 pm
I deffinitely like Colbert and I would honestly be tempted to vote for him. I just don’t know how really qualified he is. We’re in the middle of a war and I’m not saying he doesn’t know his stuff, but President is a huge job, especially right now. I think if he were more serious about this, he really could be elected and make a great president. His blunt honesty is more appealing than anything.
PS if Hilary wins, I’m moving to North Korea.
October 25th, 2007 at 6:52 pm
With the exception of his spelling errors I agree with Joe Delta 100%
October 25th, 2007 at 7:19 pm
Thisguy12,
I agree with you 100%. It’s so refreshing to know that there really are a few Bush supporters in this country. It’s not Bush’s fault that right after he was elected, 9/11 happened. Despite what a lot of Bush-bashers say, NOTHING could have been done to prevent it. Bush is a human like all of us, and I think he has handled this post 9/11 America a lot better than say, John Kerry could have. He gets slandered and ridiculed every day, but you never hear him express anything but love and concern for this country and its citizens. And comments such as, “He’s obviously a Bush fan, i could see that from the way he unknowingly repeated to spell DOES wrong,” are just unnecessary and insulting. I think that you are absolutely right. The problem with this country is not Bush, or liberals, or conservatives. It’s the unity and pride in our wonderful nation that just doen’t seem to exist anymore.
October 25th, 2007 at 7:21 pm
wow! spell-challenged posts!
October 25th, 2007 at 7:24 pm
He is simply demonstrating what a joke presidential candidates and our country’s government has become. I say vote for him- he’s better that the other garbage that is running.
October 25th, 2007 at 7:27 pm
You’re right Joe Delta, it seems you know how to spell comedian.
October 25th, 2007 at 7:29 pm
If Colbert wins this election I am moving to the States.
October 25th, 2007 at 7:34 pm
I reckin bUSH needs to be reilected for an other 4 years mannnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!111 colbert is a pussie libral, i agre with delta- last time i checked this was the united states of america NOT united stats of South carolina!!!
Go titans,
Jeb x
October 25th, 2007 at 7:55 pm
Stephen Colbert is awesome!!!!!!!!!
October 25th, 2007 at 7:59 pm
I hope that last post was sarcastic.
COLBERT ALL THE WAY
October 25th, 2007 at 8:01 pm
all you guys are idiots to think this is even serious and not political satire or some form of comedic stunt. and who ever said that our vote does not count because of the electoral college, you need to crack open a book and learn what it really means and how it works. also, come on seriously; all the bush bashing is garbage. you first need to have a clue before you can call someone a bad president. you guys blame him for every problem the US and the world has. you blame him for wild fires, hurricanes, wars, global warming(which is a crock on to its self.) and gas prices. i don’t think he is a great man but you are a fool and very ignorant to think that he is a bad president. and Thisguy12, big dittos to that. its the smear propagandists and the power agenda pushing politicians that will do all and nothing for just a raise in the polls. even blaming our commander and chief for natural disasters.
October 25th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
I think Stephen would make a great President! He could name Jon Stewart his VP and they could do the “Daily Show” and “Colbert Report” from the Oval Office. At least we’d go down the tubes laughing!
Seriously folks, look at the likely candidates for the two parties, it’s More Of The Same vs. More Of The Same. And you wonder why people don’t seem to think their vote counts? Colbert for President is wonderful political theater and voting for him a perfectly legit form of political protest. Maybe if enough people vote for Stephen we’ll shake the politicos from their slumber and they’ll offer a real alternative.
October 25th, 2007 at 8:43 pm
Thisguy:
Unity and questioning authority are two separate things. The moment we stop questioning what our government is doing and just accept it blindly and without question, is the moment we forget this is a democracy.
Bush has not lead this country well, in my opinion at least. At this point, it’s pretty obvious why he went into Iraq… Alan Greenspan is on record saying that the invasion of Iraq was for oil, pure and simple. This makes sense when you do some research and realize that the Bush family basically bleeds oil. If this were REALLY about exporting democracy, abolition terror, etc, where is Osama bin Laden? He was the mastermind of 9/11 and yet we barely ever hear about him.
If Bush was sincerely concerned for the well being of this country in capturing a known threat, he could have done it. Look at how easily we overthrew Iraq! In a matter of months we toppled Hussein’s statue… in a matter of a few more months, we found him in a hole… a year later he was sentenced to death, and a petty month or two later he was dead. Where is THAT type of efficiency with Osama? Where is the media coverage about Osama? HE ORCHESTRATED 9/11 AND NO ONE SEEMS TO REMEMBER THAT! Why aren’t people asking about this?!
No… Bush did NOT lead this country in OUR best interest, he did it for himself.
May I also point out that Bush is still gung ho about spending upwards of 700 billion dollars of our money in Iraq, yet he won’t pass a 35 billion dollar bill to provide our children with free health care. Why? Perhaps so he can save a few cents when he declares another illegal war on Iran during his lame duck period.
With that said, I agree with you in that I don’t think other candidates would have been much better, except MAYBE some of the fringe candidates. Every single lifer politician has an agenda, and more often than not, it is self serving.
I would vote for Colbert on that basis alone… He KNOWS politics inside and out, but he has not been corrupted by them.
October 25th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
honestly, these internet polls of about 10,000 people mean nothing, I clicked colbert but he is NEVER going to make the final ballet so its irelevant…but if he did, I would vote for him over any canidate any day, and not because hes a comidian and I like his show (I actualy am not a fan) but because hes NOT a politicain and because I know where his views are (not the views he portrays on his show) and I think that with him we might have the first non corupt president in a decade…things not changing is what makes me sick
October 25th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
To alp:
We don’t blame him for natural disasters, we blame him for allowing incompetent people to manage the response to natural disasters. Heckuva job Brownie anyone? Which brings up another point about politicians… More often than not, someone is assigned to a position of power not for what he or she know, but who. Since most high power politicians already come from big money, favors replace it as their currency. Time and time again, Bush has made appointments that seem beyond illogical.
Bush is not THE source of problems in the country, but his poor decisions in response to these problems, and the boneheads he surrounds himself with, are not helping the situation.
October 25th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
maybe part of the bigger problem is that some people spell “does” as “dose.”
October 25th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
Man of the Year was a great movie. I suggest watching it and smiling.
On a more related note, he can’t do any worse than the idiots who keep trying to muscle their way into the white house these days. At least he can probably communicate like an adult.
October 25th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
Does anyone know what Colbert’s stances on issues are? I was just wondering. I may or may not vote for him, but I have to know what a person believes and wants to see change in America before I vote for them.
I’m just scared about everything. Sure, politicians are corrupt, but having a comedian as a president may make us not only the most hated country in the world (as we are now) but also the laughing stock of the whole world.
But then again, he may become serious and be a great president. We’ll see. I’d just love to see him in the big debates with the party winners of the Republican and Democratic parties. That would be amazing.
October 25th, 2007 at 9:38 pm
To Joe Delta, the reason this country does not work is because you can’t spell correctly.
October 25th, 2007 at 10:18 pm
I don’t blame Bush for 9/11, or a lot of things that are going wrong in this country. Thank God there is a balance of power or we would really be in trouble. What I do blame Bush for is not being able to speak publicly or even coherently. The man is the leader of the most powerful nation in the world and he cannot pronounce “nuclear.” Anytime he is speaking without a teleprompter he looks like a complete fool, and don’t try to tell me that the liberals are slanting that. You loyal Bushies are damn right, this whole Colbert thing is a big joke (and personally I am suprised you caught it), but you have to give Colbert one thing: He can speak on camera without making himself look like an idiot. And that is a major prerequisite for being president in today’s society. I would be content with Bush if he could just go on camera without making Americans look like a bunch of jackasses.
October 25th, 2007 at 10:19 pm
In response to Thisguy12 and alp yaldir,
Unity is not a good thing. If you look at the structure of our government, it will become clear that it is intended to create division so that one group cannot gain too much power. If you look at the two major revolution of the 18th century(the American and the French), you will discover that the American government was a success because it allows for disunity and expression of public dissent where as the French emphasis on the General Will(look up Rousseau) created the Reign of Terror. Disunity is a good thing it prevents tyranny of the Majority. Colbert running is an expression of the farce that these two parties have become; thus, while I don’t think he will and don’t honestly want him to win, I would like for him to win a significant portion of the votes. Unity is not benificial. The Germans were unified behind Hitler. The most important job of a citizen is to question leaders; this precedent goes back the nations founding, if people had never questioned the British monarchy would there have been an American Revolution?
October 26th, 2007 at 3:55 am
21st Century Federalist,
I don’t even know how to respond to a statement like, “Unity is not a good thing.” I would like to know how on Earth you you could justify thinking that a unified pride in our country could possibly be harmful. Do you remember what it was like after 9/11? Everything just stopped. This nation pulled together, and we dropped our differences to help our grieving fellow Americans. Yes, it is important to have differring parties and political opinions for an effective democracy, but it is not our job to make sure the President doesn’t get too powerful. A simple system of checks and balances will accomplish that.
Do you want to know why Vietnam is the only war we’ve ever lost? It is because when our troops, the future of our country ,and our own brothers and sisters were over-seas risking their lives to protect out freedom, this country became unified in at least one thing- SUPPORTING the troops. Political stances DO NOT MATTER when it comes right down to it. Basically, there is a HUGE and important difference between questioning a potentially oppressive administration, and disunity. one is necessary to run a goverment; the other is vital to run a nation.
October 26th, 2007 at 1:12 pm
This emily cat is a moron. First of all nationalism is one of the most dangerous things in the world. You know who were united… the Nazi’s, as for this support out troops and we lost vietnam *i guess you are suggesting because we lost unity? Overall the reason Colbert has my vote is because he would make a better president than anybody currently running or currently in office. Someone mentioned up there that “electing a comedian would make us the laughing stock of the world” dont you think we already are? Bush’s policies domestic and foreign have been awful. People say they dont blame him for 911 or Katrina… i really dont, but lets not forget the attack of Iraq was a WAR CRIME according to international law. That Iraq had nothing to do with 911, that we are still best friends of the leader of the nation where the vast majority of the 911 terrorist came from. We let a conservitive president spend more money than any president previous (beating ron reagan). Put it this way… american conservitives are not conservitives at all if they support the Neo Con’s Bush and Reagan they are nitwits who have been dupped into voting for neo fascists/who get most of their support from nutcase christians who get their doctorine from a magical sky creature. Basically if you think Bush and Reagan are good presidents you are a moron.
October 26th, 2007 at 7:20 pm
A quick reply to Emily:
We got so caught up in our sense of unity after 9/11 that we failed to question a war(Iraq) based on false purposes. Did Saddam have WMDs? Have we democratized Iraq? Supporting the troups is completely irrelevant, I don’t think there is anyone out there not “Supporting the troups.” It very easy to support the troups and not support the war. We must question our leader, this is one of Thomas Jefferson’s central philosophies. When John Adams signed the Alien and Sedition Acts (1798- laws restricting free speech and the rights of immigrants) into law, he did not say we must unify behind our President who is making a mockery of the Constitution. No, he and James Madison wrote the Virginia and Kentucky Act stating the nullification principle(that states to do not have to abide by unconstitutional legislation).
October 26th, 2007 at 10:01 pm
21st Century Federalist,
I agree with you. I respect your opinion because I can tell that you know what you’re talking about. Plus, you back up your point instead of just trying to insult me. It really gives you credibility. The others reading this might want to try it.
I understand about supporting the troops but not the war. That’s perfectly fine, but I was referring to the people who actually don’t support the troops. You would be surprised how many of those people there are.
Chris,
I didn’t mean to say anything specific about Vietnam. I was just saying that we’ve only lost one war in our history and unity is the reason for that.
Also, next time, please try to use correct grammar and punctuation so I actually understand all of what you are trying to say.
But on a more important note-
First of all, I would very much love to hear how you support your statement of Bush and Reagan’s being neo-cons, neo-fascists, and nitwits. Tell me what exactly, they have done wrong. Yes, you can go the way of the war in Iraq for President Bush, but tell me something Reagan did that you didn’t like, and support it. Please, I really want to hear what you have to say.
Second,
I can see you are very patriotic, comparing Americans like you and me to Nazis. Get your facts straight- most of the Nazis were not united, they were threatened. They were lured into the Nazi party by Hitler’s false promises, then told that if they refuse to slaughter Jews, they would be slaughtered with them instead.
Third,
I’m going to assume you are liberal based on the way you put down (and misspelled) conservatives. Based on that assumption, I will say this- the dictionary definition of “liberal” is, “characterized by generosity and willingness to give in large amounts.” Don’t get me wrong, that’s a great thing, but I’m going to make another assumption. If you are a liberal, then I am going to assume that you have great compassion for people with different beliefs and/or situations than what is considered normal. People such as the poor and homeless, or African Americans, or Muslims. You try your hardest to never say or do anything to offend them, even if you do not agree with them. Again, don’t get me wrong, that is also a great thing. But what about me? Do I count? I’m a Christian. I have a different belief than you do. That magical sky-creature happens to be the most important influence on my whole life. I am offended. And you can call me “cat, moron, Nazi, laughing stock, neo-con, neo-fascist, nitwit, and nutcase,” all you want. But I have no respect for you, because you stoop so low. I have respect for 21st Century Federalist even though I don’t agree with his statement that the US should not be unified. But I cannot respect you, when you don’t support what you say (at least what I can understand of it) and you do nothing but throw out insults.
If you really want to be able to call yourself a liberal with any amount of dignity, I would suggest applying your sensitive and compassionate values to everyone, including myself and other Christians.
I apologize for such a long post. I just had a lot to say.
October 26th, 2007 at 11:37 pm
I agree with emily at least in what is respectable in making an arguement.
Personal attacks are what make politics such a disgusting field and what can be so disillusioning no matter where you stand in our party system. You can present an arguement in a completely professional way, in addition to being nicer these arguements are usually stronger.
October 27th, 2007 at 4:08 am
Well, you know Emily, Reagan was so dead set against recognizing the horror that was aids, I’m going to join the club of name callers..but I’m too educated to get into it any more than that, so fuck it. Vietnam was ended by hippies and crazies and the politicians who had the sense to cut and run. And take your respect with you. Christian in the sky indeed

in response to the comment “maybe this guy does not know anything about being president,” do you think our current president is a good representation of someone that “knows” the role of a national leader? It seems like, if anything, Colbert is quite a leader and has a large following of informed citizens. P.S. maybe you should learn how to spell “does” if you want to be taken seriously.
October 31st, 2007 at 9:52 am
Cobert will never make it; Go waste your time on something else.
November 20th, 2007 at 6:29 pm
Colbert for President! I love the guy and even though he’s wacky and wierd, he’d be better than any of the other candidates.
